Succulents

succlentssucclentssucculents
The weather in Southern California has been quite warm lately. The days are made up of beautiful blue skies and lots of sunshine. As much as I enjoy the warm weather I would be lying if I said I don't miss cooler days. I'm longing for some gray skies and rain. I love cool weather and I feel like we never see enough of it. As a knitter I have a strong appreciation for wintry days. The kind that make you want to pick up a ball of wool and sit under a blanket and knit. It feels like summer far too much. I feel bad for complaining about it when the majority of my country is freezing while terrible storms pass through. But too much of the same thing (i.e. sunny days) isn't good. After a while it gets old and I enjoy a bit of change. On the plus side I was able to sit outside and enjoy the succulents yesterday. There is, indeed, still so much good in our never-ending California sunshine.

Garter Stitch

I have fallen in love with the garter stitch -so sweet and so simple. Those of you who knit know that it is the most basic knit pattern. So when I first started knitting I was always wanting to try more difficult/exciting stitch patterns and never made much in garter stitch but these days I can't stop. I love the simplicity and durability of the pattern. This past week I worked on a little vest and a sweet pair of booties. The vest I have yet to finish but the booties I seamed up and completed today. DSC_0024DSC_0013DSC_0044DSC_0036-001

Friday

What a productive day I had.
I made some banana bread.
Got some laundry done.
Bathed Mimi.
Ran some errands.
Went thrifting and bought the Let it be album.
And spent some time with my dear Lindsey.

little knits

DSC_0051
It's official. I'm addicted to making baby knits. They just work up so quickly compared to my size knits. So when I want to keep my hands busy I find myself working on baby items. My little stack of infant knits is quickly growing. These projects have definitely challenged me in my knitting skills. The best thing about is its alot more affordable to make these little knits opposed to larger things for myself. Yarn can be expensive and all the skeins certainly add up. What are you making these days?

tuesday

Still taking it easy around here. Played with my camera, went to the library, and did some knitting. I knitted a teeny tiny bonnet that will soon be gifted to a baby girl. I usually don't like to make newborn size knits because they can only be worn for a couple a weeks. But, oh my, they sure are sweet. I made it using this pattern. I did alter a few things and am really happy with the result. The color was hard to photograph but it's a really pretty icy blue. It's definitely a pattern I would make again.

life lately

Life lately has consisted of me sitting on the couch or laying in bed. Unfortunately I have started of the new year with an awful stomach bug. Such a shame as I was hoping this year would be filled will less sickness. I just can't catch a break. On Christmas Eve. I was feeling feverish and by Christmas day my cold was in full swing. I didn't really start feeling better til New Years day and then this stomach bug hit and literally knocked me off my feet. Perhaps it was so hard on me since my body had used so much energy to fight off the previous cold.

Anywho I am looking forward to feeling a 100% again. Enough of this unhealthy stuff.

When the stomach pain became bearable I immediately started knitting. I finished the most darling romper. I even snapped a few photos of it but unfortunately I only had my 50mm lens on my camera and wasn't able to get the whole outfit in the frame while I was taking the photos. I should have switched lenses, or put the romper somewhere else to get it all in the frame but when your not feeling well everything seems so complicated. haha. So it is what it is. I want to make a bonnet to go with it as well and if I do I will certainly snap some better photos of the whole outfit. But for now these will do.

makes

Not only am I hoping to make more creations in 2014 but I am planning to share more on this space. So often I finish a project and I'm immediately on to the next one. This year I hope to document each one. It's interesting to look back on past makes and compare them to things I make now. Below are some makes that I never shared properly. I still plan on taking photos of the socks I made. They are a project I was quite proud of.

Happy New Year!

Hoping 2014 brings...
1. more knitting
2. more bread baking
3. more pie making
4. more flowers
5. more cake making
6. more adventure
7. more pretty yarn
8. more sewing

On a much more serious note. 2013 was an interesting year. It wasn't my best but God still blessed me with so many good things. I learned a lot and faced many trials. Trusting in the Lord was my saving grace.

Today I pray I will be a blessing to those I encounter in 2014. I look forward to a new year. A new beginning.
