mama's quilt

This is one of my favorite quilts. It's rather small but looks lovely draped across the couch. I made it last year for my mothers birthday. The pattern is from the book The Practical Guide to Patchwork I used 40's and 50's vintage scraps for the leaves and am very pleased with how it turned out. I would love to have another one of these quilts but honestly I don't plan on cutting out hundreds of leaves anytime soon. Boy was that time consuming. I think a large one would make a darling bedspread. By the way that's my older brother holding up the quilt. He's the best. Thanks David.

crochet project

Today I finished putting together the prototype for a new project I am working one. I'm pretty happy with the results but I will need to change quite few things before I start making more. My hope is to start making products for my neglected etsy shop. I think these may be something I try and sell.

Tart Strawberry Cupcakes

I made these cupcakes pretty last minute today. I had completely forgot that I had chose to bake this months dessert for my book club meeting. I actually didn't even read the book but wanted to contribute the dessert. I ended up just dropping the cupcakes off at my neighbors who happen to host the book club. Very convenient. I really hope they enjoyed them. If I had remembered earlier I'd be baking today I would've jotted down the recipe and took note of all my measurements so that I could share with you! Hopefully next time I'll be able to do so.

Woah I just realized this is my 700th post. Pretty crazy. I love that I have kept a blog to document the past five years of my life. I really enjoy reading old posts although I find some of them really embarrassing. It's so interesting how time changes so much. Not only the way you look but the way you think/feel about certain things.

Anyways, today was a nice day compared to the past few. I have a terrible sinus infection and it has left me feeling tired and irritable. I went to the doctor yesterday and she prescribed me some meds. I'm so very happy they started working as quickly as they did. No more swollen throat! Yay. Hopefully I will sleep well tonight.


Today, my brother, David and I went to starbucks. I had to change up my usual order due to the warm weather. A hot latte just wouldn't do. So I decided to try a caramel macchiato. I rarely get the fancy drinks because they are usually too expensive and too sweet. But this wasn't half bad. I'll just have to tell them easy syrup next time. Such sugary drinks they make.

Santa Monica

Today I spent the morning with my sister in Santa Monica. We shopped the beautiful farmers market. It's one of my favorites. It's not as lovely as downtown Santa Barbara's but its quite nice and has a huge selection of fresh produce and lots of beautiful flowers. Ryn and I both bought some. Snapdragons for me and Fresia's for her. After shopping around we had lunch at cafe. Coryn ordered the most delicious honey vanilla latte. It was sooo good. I had a plain one but wished I had ordered one like her. I must figure out how to make it.
I sure do love a good latte.

Spring is near

Spring has arrived a little early here in Southern California. It always seems to, which is fine by me. I will say I do miss the cooler weather as I really don't think we get enough of it. I love the coziness of chilly days and will miss doing wintery things like sitting under blankets and knitting. This past week it has been pretty toasty. The temperature even went into the nineties a couple of times. Honestly its as if are skipping Spring all together and going straight into summer. Now that I don't like. I mean I love all the seasons but they do need to wait their turn.

Some of my favorite flowers have blossomed (Jasmine). They smell so fantastic. Their scent is so strong I can smell them as soon as I step outside. It's lovely. Today I collected some for my room. My sister puts them in her car. Genius. I'll have to do that too.

changes

I'm attempting to make some changes to my blog. It's kind of tricky since I don't know a thing about graphic design or coding. Hopefully I can figure it out. I'd like to have a menu bar and a new header. But I shall try and tackle those things another day. For now I will just shuffle some things around. I really hope I don't mess anything up. Tonight I'll leave you with some photos of today's lunch. Tomato, garbanzo beans, parsley, cows cous, red onion, lemon, olive oil and salt. It was the perfect day for a nice cold salad.

family

I love family gatherings and am so glad I get to see my relatives multiple times a month. Yesterday we got together for one of my little cousins tenth birthday. Our gatherings usually consist of delicious mexican food and the cousins getting into some kind of shenanigans. It's fun and I am so grateful for each of them.
